Pooja Sharma has faced immense loss in her life. At a young age, she endured the heartbreak of losing her mother. Tragically, her family's sorrow deepened when her brother, their sole remaining son, was killed during a dispute. Devastated by the loss of her brother, Pooja's father also succumbed to the weight of grief.

“They killed my brother while I was there next to him. I was never this brave but you get courage and understand the pain of others when you face something similar in your life. I cried and called for help with his head in my arms and took him to hospital where he was declared dead. Noone came forward for his cremation. I did all the rituals and went haridwar. At my moment of worst I wondered what happens to those abandoned bodies who are not claimed by anyone. Pooja found a powerful purpose. She started a mission: giving respectful last rites to those who are abandoned and unclaimed after their death. This includes people like accident victims, those suffering from HIV/AIDS, and even those in jail. Pooja doesn't stop there; she makes sure their ashes are gently laid to rest in the holy waters of the Ganges River, just like tradition dictates.

Through her unwavering dedication, To date, she has solemnly cremated over 4000 abandoned dead bodies, offering them the dignity in death that eluded them in life. Every month, without fail, she travels to Haridwar to perform the sacred ritual of immersion, honoring the departed souls and their rightful place.

About the NGO: Following her brother's dismissal, she dedicated herself to this noble cause. In 2022, the Brave Souls Foundation was established with a dual mission: to ensure dignified last rites for all and to actively engage in environmental welfare, elderly care, providing shelter to abandoned children and women, as well as supporting child education initiatives.
